Participate in our Learning Garden with organic gardening hands-on activities and lessons. (Ages 1-8th Grade). Sarah Heinz House’s Learning Garden provides a wonderful hands-on experience for kids in our summer and after school programs. Working with advisers from Penn State’s Cooperative Gardeners and volunteers in our senior fitness program, kids are introduced to organic gardening techniques and earth friendly concepts such as crop rotation, soil nutrient replacement and water conservation while helping to plant and care for the garden. When the vegetables and fruits are ready to be picked, kids and senior volunteers prepare healthy recipes and share in a harvest meal.
