Building Character Campaign
Goal
The goal of the Building Character Campaign is to meet the needs of our members by enhancing both the quality and quantity of program space available. Another goal is to reconnect to the surrounding community visually, physically and programmatically.
The “green” sustainable, and energy-efficient 30,000 square foot annex adjacent to the existing, historic building is complete. The new program space make us well equipped for the 21st century and beyond.
The Campaign has achieved many important goals.
- Allows for more members to join up to 50% more in 3 years.
- Reduces overcrowding of programs including robotics, karate, swimming and dance.
- Provides two amazing centerpieces for our recreational, athletic and community programs, with a new gymnasium and regulation-sized pool, complete with a unique climbing wall
- Allows for access by all, regardless of physical condition. Include added features to accommodate those with special needs including an elevator for volunteers, families and members who need assistance.
- Includes community activities for adults (including seniors) during the day
- Adds important new facets to Heinz House including private Music Rooms, a new Robotics Studio and Art Room
- Features a light-commercial style kitchen where nutritious meals and snacks are provided
- Doubles the size of our current dance studio to allow for more participation and enhanced choreography.
- Includes a Fitness Center with cardio and strength equipment for adults and youth.
- Showcases outdoor ball fields, sloping grass for spectators and a fire pit for cookouts.
Financial Information:
- We need your help to build the future. Generous people have long subsidized each SHH membership so that all can join, regardless of family income. Please take this opportunity to show your gratitude by helping another young person enjoy everything House has to offer and reach their highest potential.
- The total cost to prepare the site, renovate the existing building and construct the annex is $11.4M.
- To date, $9.8M has been raised from foundations, corporations, alumni and the community at large. ($7.6 from foundations; $1.5 from corporations; with the balance from alumni, private, event and interest revenue).
- Help us raise the final $1.6 million to complete this important Campaign. Through the generosity of Challenge Grant from a HH alumnus, all donations will be matched if we raise $250,000 by October 31, 2007. We have raised $130,000 towards this challenge, with two months left. With your help, we will meet our goal.
